Colorado Astronomy Day 2007 is dedicated to "bringing astronomy to the people," promoting public education and interest in Colorado astronomy and astronomy organizations and to the importance of maintaining dark skies for public access to, and enjoyment of, the night sky.

Statement for Newspaper Calendars & Announcements

Colorado Astronomy Day | On Saturday, September 15, 2007 join organizations across Colorado in celebrating Colorado Astronomy Day. Boulder's Fiske Planetarium & Science Center will host English and Spanish versions of "Space Storm" beginning at 2pm, a program which explores the impact of the Sun on Earth. In Denver, a full slate of entertaining and educational astronomy presentations will be offered at DMNS from 10 am to 4 pm.  Observing activities will feature safe solar viewing at DMNS during the day and an evening open house at Chamberlin Observatory with the Denver Astronomical Society, featuring DU's famous 20-in Clark-Saegmuller refractor and dozens of telescopes operated by DAS members. Educational talks, exhibits and displays will be presented at Chamberlin Observatory starting at 6:00 pm. Night time viewing of celestial objects at Chamberlin Observatory beginning at 7:30 pm through 11 pm.  Other participants include the Brighton Astronomy Group, which will be setting up telescopes at 22nd and Bromley Lane (Bromley Park) in  Brighton, Colorado for solar and nighttime observing and providing a giant 400-foot-long solar system model for the kids.  For up-to-date information on all activities, see the event Web site at www.coloradoastronomyday.org
