Honorary Proclamation

Astronomy Day
October 4, 1997

Whereas, the Denver Astronomical Society, the University of Denver’s Chamberlin Observatory, and Gates Planetarium have a long tradition of providing education about astronomy; and

. . . whereas, a new era of discoveries are taking place using the space telescope and planetary probes; and

. . . whereas, astronomy is historically the first of the sciences and has been around for 10,000 years; and

. . . whereas, an appreciation of the State of Colorado should extend to the sky above it, as well as the mountains and plains below;

now, therefore, I, Roy Romer, governor of Colorado, proclaim October 4, of 1997 as astronomy day in the state of Colorado.

Given under my hand,

[Official Seal of State of Colorado]

This 10th day of September, 1997

[signed]

Roy Romer, Governor
